// Relief! Sadness! Relief!

Posted on Friday, October 2nd, 2009

My epic 45 mile road ride from Monterey to Santa Cruz is cancelled. Just because people got busy, and stuff happens. I’m kind of relieved, as you can imagine. But I’m also sad. But then I think about it again, and I’m relieved.  I know that I should keep riding and set another large ride for myself, but at this point all I can think about is how I can take it a little easier this weekend.

So what to do to celebrate the relief? How about indulging in a little mountain biking? That’s my plan for this afternoon after work. I’m going to try and hit some of the trails around here, because believe it or not, I haven’t gone mountain biking once since I moved to the East Bay from Wisconsin. This is partly because I heard most of the trails here are fire roads or are otherwise lame and without technical obstacles. I’ve also heard there’s some great single track to be found if you know where to look–and I don’t. So I’m going to go exploring anyway, and see what I can find. If it’s good, I’ll throw some pictures up here for everyone to peruse. Seems like a great way to start the weekend!

If you know of an epic mountain bike route, please fill me in. Your assistance is much appreciated!! I’m particularly looking for something in the East Bay–so I can ride it more often. Marin is great and all, but it’s too far to go on a weekday after work.
