Yikes! Sarah B., over at her Richmond District of San Francisco Blog is reporting that a bicyclist was seriously injured when he or she collided with a bus this morning. The cyclist apparently smacked into one of the bus’ side mirrors.
Apparently the kids on the bus were ok, just a bit shaken up. At least [...]

Wow! A New Bike Lane in San Francisco!
Friday, December 4th, 2009
They say it’s one step forward, two steps back, right? Well, having just posted about the two steps back in the world of Bay Area bike lanes, it’s time to write about that one step forward.
San Francisco got a new bike lane! It’s the first new bike lane in the city in three years, and [...]

Congestion on the 40th Street Bridge
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
From the East Bay Bicycle Coalition:
Traffic lanes on the 40th St/Shellmound Bridge were reduced from 2 to 1 in each direction in Sept 2008 to provide a buffer for cyclists. Due to complaints from Emery Go Round and Bay Street shopping center management about traffic congestion the City of Emeryville is studying whether to return [...]
100 Bikes
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
Occasionally someone does something that seems amazingly simple and like something I should have thought of myself. But I always wind up admitting that I could never have thought of it myself, and even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to execute it as flawlessly as the person who actually did think of it.
The [...]
Custom Art for the Bike
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009
Part of the cool thing about cycling is that it lets you express yourself in endless ways. You can express your concern for the environment by riding places that you would normally drive. You can express your artistic taste by picking a frame you like, and adding colored bar tape or grips, pedals, lights, or [...]
“Etiquette”
Wednesday, November 11th, 2009
I’ve already written a little bit about different types (maybe mindsets is a better word) of cyclists , but a recent event has spurred me to further discuss the so-called “rules” of road riding.
Now, obviously there’s basic rules, like stopping for red lights. But there are also those other rules–rules that new riders don’t know. [...]
The Ending of the Story
Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
Well, after seeking out the stories of the cyclists and the driver, it seems the third storyteller–truth–is siding with the cyclists.
According to the LA Times coverage, “Christopher Thompson, 60, is convicted of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges in the crash that injured cyclists Ron Peterson and Christian Stoehr on Mandeville Canyon [...]
The Other Side of the Story
Monday, November 2nd, 2009
You’ll remember that I wrote about a driver who allegedly slammed on his brakes in front of two cyclists in an attempt to purposely injure them.
Well, now the driver is telling his story–in court. The LA Times has a piece about the driver’s side of the story. It reminds me of a quote I heard [...]
Ryan Leech’s Amazing Skills
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
This is Ryan Leech. He is amazing.
What he does in this video is obviously incredible, but aside from that, it’s cool to see more tricks done on a full size bike. BMXers have been flipping their bikes around for years, and they have all sorts of pegs and reversible forks and other gizmos to help [...]
261 Bicycles, 66 Locks
Monday, October 26th, 2009
The Oakland Tribune’s online edition sucked me in last Thursday with the headline “Bike Thefts on the Rise, Police Say.” I seem to have a thing for reporting depressing bike news lately, so I thought I’d see just what the Oakland Tribune had to say.
The overall message was that in bike thefts have been on [...]
