// Bicycles = Evolution

Posted on Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

I was just browsing Google’s blog search (which is really a wonderful thing), and I came across this blog post from an independent radio station in New York that proclaims that the invention of the bicycle in France lead to an increase in average height of about 6 inches over the next several generations. Of course, I had to read on to learn about whether or not I could get taller if I rode my bicycle more. Turns out I can’t.

What the blog was referencing was the fact that the bicycle allowed people to venture further outside of their own villages, thus widening the potential gene pool, and as the post put it “strengthening the stock.”

I guess the fact that I’m taller than the average girl is just one more reason to be thankful for the invention of bicycles.
